(Un)expected Saviour

During the reign of Caesar Augustus, one of the great rulers of antiquity and called by the people of the time “the saviour of the world”, a new Saviour is born in the most unlikely of circumstances. But why is he called Saviour, and what possible significance does that have for us today?
